Jon: "This next song is a song by DaftPunk. I first heard these guys when I was in college - loved it. Put it on and just enjoy yourself. It takes you on a journey. My nephew, he's autistic and he gets fixated on certain songs. And this next song is a song that I've probably heard, no joke, hundreds of times, often times back to back. He loves it. And this one's for you Sam. Sam, you're amazing and this is your song. This is a song called "One More Time" by Daft Punk."

Chad: "This next song is a band that we got to play with at a festival last year. Great guys, great rock band."
Hey Ya - Outkast
Jon: "This is kind of a surprise for me. I love this record but I didn't feel that it would get much respect from a Thom Yorke type of personality."
Chad: "Because it was such a huge commercial hit."
Jon: "Yeah right, and to see that they really liked this song "Hey Ya" by Outkast, definitely surprised me. But if you think about it, it's got kind of an on time signature, it's an incredibly witty lyric, very complex, and yet it's incredibly catchy. Which I feel like is the perfect marriage between intellect and pop, so I really appreciate this song."
Chad: "And the music video is one of my all time favorites. Whenever I hear the song now, I reference that video."
Somebody Told Me - The Killers

Chad: "The next song is one of the most popular songs of the last few years, I remember hearing it in Home Depot almost every time I'm going down the hardware aisle. But funny story, we were flying home one day from tour and I looked across the aisle from me, in a middle of Southwest plane, and right next to me was Ryan Tedder from One Republic. And we were talking about the luxurious seats of Southwest..."
Jon: "All leather, come on."
Chad: "Extra leg room, all that... but I love that I got to meet him and hang out and we've stayed in touch ever since."

Family Affair - Mary J Blige
Jon: "Mike is an amazing guy... he - a true musician is able to dive into different worlds. He's an incredible upright jazz bass player and yet he can work with a rock band like ourselves and yet also produce one of my favorite tracks, Family Affair, Mary J Blige. That to for me is the sign of accomplishment, to be able to dive into all these different worlds. So we'd like to play a track for YOU Mike!"
Use Somebody - Kings of Leon
Chad: "That was Kings of Leon, "Use Somebody" right here on the iTunes Download. That was a song that was produced by Jacquire King who happens to be a friend of ours and he produced the 3rd Switchfoot record."
Jon: "You gotta give props to your friends you know.
Lucky Man - The Verve
Jon: "This is a song that we've covered pretty recently. And most of the time for us, a cover is a chance to play one of your favorite songs live and kind of dive into that experience. And this is a band that's incredible influential - The Verve - and we covered a song of theirs called "Lucky Man."

JON'S 2008 CELEBRITY PLAYLIST

First Time - Lifehouse
Those guys are really great people, we've played with them a few times, I really like those guys. I remember the first time I heard their song, I think I was still living at my folks house and this was before I dropped out of college and I loved it. I think Jason's got a great voice, and they're really great people, really fun to be around.
1 2 3 4 - Fiest
I will always remember the time I got a chance to see Fiest in Australlia, in Melbourne. That girl can sing and she is incredibly gifted at song writing and she actually is one of the few female guitar players that you hear play and you think "Man, she know's what she's doing." Not just carrying a song on a guitar, but actually going places on a guitar that you don't often hear, and I was very impressed. The only tragedy of the night is that she said 'Sydney' instead of Melbourne, which kind of got the whole crowd riled up. Because it's like saying Seattle in Portland type of thing. Anyways, other than that, she's brilliant and this is a great song.
Nothing Left to Lose - Mat Kearny
I actually had a chance to go on a man date with him not so long ago. You know you have man dates where you have a chance to go out to dinner and a movie with some folks. It was great to see him. It was one of those rare moments when you're in a band, on tour and your not playing a show. Even rarer is the night where there are other bands in the same town passing through. It just so happened that the Mute Math, Eisley tour was there... Matt was there... we were in town... and some other friends. We all just kind of went out and we went to Outback Steakhouse and got like a table for forty. So that was my man date with Mat Kearny. That was fun. You split the bill you know - unless you're really good friends... then you can kind of fight for it.
Boston - Augustana
We got a chance to take them out on their first real tour back in the day. Eisley was on that bill as well. And man! They're just good guys... Jared is a good friend of mine... and I owe him a call, that's why I wanted to make sure I picked that song for you guys to play. They're kind of from all over, but they're San Diego transplants. I lived in Boston for several years so... appropriate to pick a song about 'I think I'll go to Boston'. It's one of those things where I think California is almost an iconic... it's like this thing where the Chile Peppers have written so many songs about California in the lyrics, that you almost can't write any California songs. They did it successfully, so my hat goes off.
Be My Escape - Relient K
I love Matt and the boys. This tour has been a great time to kind of chill with them. They're kind of like little brothers for me, we've known them for so long. I remember the first time we played with them before they were signed or anything, they were the local openers. He [Matt] was still working at Wendy's... and just great, really catchy, smartly written songs. It's good to see them kind of come into their own... and to be on Late Night TV... to be flipping stations, and see them, it's great. I'm very proud of those guys.

It's Never Been Like That - Phoenix
This is one of our favorite albums of the year! We saw this band live in San Diego and went surfing with them. They have a fresh, organized sound that makes us excited to travel. This accessable band is for the masses! Viva Paris, France!
Mute Math - Mute Math
These guys are some of the best musicians we know. This eclectic pop blend of rock and rhythm is truly unique. Their passionate live performance is one of the hardest to follow for any band. They are going to blow you away!
Frengers - Mew
From first listen, this majestic music draws you in. The symphonic euro rock sound is charged with full production and soaring anthemic melodies.
Z - My Morning Jacket
This album is a modern day classic. Jim James' haunting vocal picks up where Neil Young left off, and the songs fall somewhere between The Who, Wilco, and Skynard.
Silent Alarm - Bloc Party
The contagious energy of this album always gets me excited. Everyone likes this band, and rightly so, they have great songs. "The Police" would be proud...
The Last Broadcast - Doves
This is a great "soundtrack for life" album. It has songs for whatever mood you are in.
Let It Die - Feist
We saw her live in Australia and fell in love with her music immediately! Her classy smooth vocals take you to another era.
Multiply - Jamie Lidell
Who knew this much soul could come from a small British man... We love the clean beats and legendary production behind these fashionably cool grooves.
Happy Hollow - Cursive
These indie rock icons have a grasp of musical chaos. The dissonant arrangements have inspired a new musical freedom.
Takk... - Sigur Ros
This is heavenly music. These "Icelandic angels" made a beautiful album.

"We've always wanted to make an itunes playlist, because there are few things in life more satisfying than turning people onto good music. But it wasn't until we were finally given the oppurtunity that we realized just how daunting the task really is. We could have easily compiled a playlist of hundreds of songs that would all fall under the category of 'favorites,' so narrowing it down was a challenge. Where to begin? We had to be selective, so we stayed away from the classics - they've been included on enough playlists already. We also stayed away from the big names - what's the point if everyone's already heard the song? This was a chance to showcase some of the best songs of the past few years, and hopefully turn some people on to some new music. So here they are, 24* songs to blow your mind...enjoy."
